This month's featured artist (who is actually the first "Artist of the Month" on this blog ever) is Pokey LaFarge.

LaFarge is a music mastermind with a retro style and sound.
He mixes jazz, ragtime, country, folk, blues, and even western swing. There is no single genre to really describe him as (sort of like Serge Gainsbourg.)
Since 2007, LaFarge has provided us with excellent Frank Sinatra meets Ernest Tubb sounding tracks. Sometimes releasing albums under the name Pokey LaFarge & the South City Three.

He just recently released a self titled album under Pokey LaFarge in June of this year. The album delivers to his fans.
And the lyrics and rhyming are the best part. Sometimes simplistic rhymes, and sometimes with modern topics despite his retro style.

LaFarge has also recently collaborated with rockabilly/soul artist, JD McPherson (one of my favorite modern artists) for the Oklahoma tornadoes relief. Which you can purchase on his website, pokeylafarge.net. Proceeds are donations to the relief.
If you haven't given LaFarge a listen, you will not be disappointed. Catch his latest self titled album!!
